About Supertrad

Sam Bartlett and Eric Schedler have been a tour de force of traditional music for the past 15 years, among the finest accordion and banjo duos in the US. Their playing grew out of the vital tune and dance scene of Bloomington, Indiana playing with Grey Larsen and Jamie Gans, but quickly sent them out of state. They have performed at the Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass Festival in Flagstaff, AZ, at Wheatland Traditional Arts in MI, from Boston to Seattle at countless dance events, and as touring emissaries for the Country Dance and Song Society Centennial Project in Owen Sound, Ontario.

Schedler’s music facility has its roots in lifelong piano study and an Oberlin Conservatory training in harpsichord. His discovery of Irish music led him to absorbing hundreds of tunes on piano accordion and becoming a pillar of the Bloomington trad music community.

Bartlett learned 5-string and tenor banjo as a teenager, playing at local square dances and contests in his native Vermont. After meeting Mick Moloney at a festival, he devoted himself to the tenor banjo, winning two gold medals at the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil after he moved to Indiana in 1993. Bartlett is also a highly regarded three finger banjo player, having recorded with Garry Harrison on his classic Red Prairie Dawn CD.
