Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to take an instrument class?

First of all, you'll need an instrument. Please visit our Instrument Resources page for more information.

Second, you'll need open ears and an open attitude! All of our music classes will be taught by ear, so patience will be essential!

I can't choose between two instruments! Can I take classes on more than one?

Absolutely! Just make sure you sign up for the level that's best for you!

What if I don't have any experience playing an instrument?

If you've never played an instrument before, we definitely recommend taking whistle. Sarah Hannon, our whistle teacher, will be happy to get you started on playing!

What is a "slow session"?

A slow session is just like a traditional session (visit our session page for more information) except our slow session coordinator, Ed Delaney, will begin tunes at a very slow tempo and will repeat them many times to give students many opportunities to learn the tunes. It'll be a lot like the classes, but students will be playing on all different types of instruments together.

When are registration forms due?

One week prior to the first class. However, you are still welcome to register after that date.

I don't really want to register or pay online, can I send you my registration materials in the mail?

Absolutely! Download the registration form here, then make out a check payable to "Irish Arts Academy of Indianapolis", and send to:

P.O. Box 1643

Indianapolis, IN 46206

I'm an advanced musician/dancer, will you have classes for my level?

Right now, we're only offering classes for beginning and intermediate levels, but we will be bringing in fantastic musicians and dancers throughout the year who will be able to cater to your level. Sign up for our mailing list on our Contact Us page to receive the emails!
